Friday Loves - Spring Brights

March 30, 2012

I am now getting on the bandwagon for Spring with colored denim. I love the bright pinks, greens, yellows, etc.  Although I am not a fan on skinny jeans (I hate jeans that are too tight on me!), I definitely want to find the perfect pair for Spring.  Here's the ones I love so far...

{via}

I love these because A) They're boyfriend jeans which are way more comfy and cute on me than skinnies & B) the pink color is to dye for! (Pun intended!!)

{via}

Here in Texas we have all of maybe one month left to wear long pants or jeans, so these adorable shorts might be much more smart for me to get. And this color is just adorable!

{via}

I like these skinny jeans from Target, they are comfy (when you go up a few sizes!), and they are reasonable so when the whole bright colored denim trend fades, you didn't waste a ton of $$ on them!

So I'm on the hunt for the best, cute, & comfy bright denim for Spring... Any ideas?!

Being born & raised in the fabulous state I've learned a few things along the way.

We don't actually have Winters here, just cold Falls.
We have Summer 7 months out of the year.
If you wear anything more than a light skirt, tank, & flip flops you will die in August.
Nothing is more beautiful than driving and see bluebonnets everywhere.
I LOVE living in this fabulous state.

Just a reminder...
Have you entered my 2 great giveaways going on?
They end this week, so make sure and enter!

Weekend Wrap Up- Giddy Up!

On Friday, Bella's school had Cowboy/Cowgirl day & Bella went all out! Grandpa brought her Toy Story hat & a bandanna to wear and she took her stick horse with her to finish it off. She was so excited & said she had a lot of fun at school.

All dressed up like a cowgirl!

With her trusty steed!

Saturday we volunteered with Eric's company for the Rosedale Ride. The Rosedale school is an Austin ISD school for handicapped children.  They were having a 62 mile bike ride, so we went to help out.

Starting line at the Rosedale Race!

It was so much fun & Bella made new friends with one of Eric's co-workers kids.  They were standing on the side of the road yelling to the cyclists that we were the last stop before the finish line! They got TONS & TONS of cyclists to our tent! The pickles were a huge hit! The weather starting (as you can see in the pic!) was extremely foggy, but by the time they got to our tent it was sunny & clear! Beautiful weather.

Sunday we went to church, then did some Spring cleaning.  Overall a wonderful fun family weekend!

Rubbermaid 2 in 1 Recylcer {Review & Giveaway!}

March 23, 2012

My family and I are avid recyclers.  Our city is huge into recycling, so when Rubbermaid asked me to review the 2 in 1 Recycler, I jumped at the chance!

This two-unit bin allows you to either contain trash and recyclables all in one location or sort recyclables. The top unit is perfect for collecting recyclables and has a fold away handle that makes it easy to take out and empty into your recycling bin. The lower bin tilts out for easy access, and holds an 8 gallon trash bag in place with the Liner Lock™ system. Alternatively, you can use the lower bin to sort another type of recyclable and carry it out with the built-in handles.

Here's me and my family's thoughts on it:

When we first opened it up, it seemed extremely lightweight which for me is a plus, but after putting it together (which took all of a second to do!) it seemed almost flimsy and could come apart easily.  I was a little worried, but one we put a trash bag in the bottom, and started putting our glass bottles below & plastic on top, it held on securly & sturdy! I am extremely happy with it.

The thing I like the best about it is how Rubbermaid has designed the 2 in 1 Recycler so that children and adults can use it.  Bella had a bottle to recycle to the bottom bin, & was able to step on the bottom and it opened the bin for her! She was so happy to be "helping our Earth!" I think it really helps teach kids to recycle easier than having them go to the garage to recycle all the time or having an ugly recycler in the kitchen!

My family and I will definitely be keeping the 2 in 1 Recycler in our kitchen to help with our recycling!
You can order your 2 in 1 recycler here, or better yet, how about trying to win it?!

The awesome people at Rubbermaid are graciously giving a 2 in 1 Recycler to one of my readers! To enter please fill out the rafflecopter form below & good luck!!!

Friday Loves - Drugstore Makeup Edition

You know me, I love makeup & I have no problem spending $$$ on a good product if I know it will work & help me look good! (Although The Hubs does have a problem with the whole spending tons of $$$ on makeup!)  Here's the thing, I've found some awesome products you can buy at your local drugstore/grocery store! They work really well for me & hope this inspires you to branch out and look for new not-so-expensive products!

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

I bought this last week because I was in desperate need of something I can throw into my handbag & use whenever I start feeling shiny.  It works like a charm!! It's definitely matte, so it goes on smoothly and yet helps keep my face shine free all day!

I saw this on the Beauty Broadcast & had to try it! I am absolutely IN LOVE with this eyeshadow trio! The colors are perfect neutrals & have a good shimmer in them. They stay on all day & look great! I am telling you, this product is awesome!

I've been using the Loreal Glow line FOREVER & I love it! It's not an instant tanned look, it takes time, but I love that it doesn't have the orangy effect a lot of sunless tanners have & after a week or so of daily use, it's exactly the color I want!

That sums up my drugstore loves for the week! What are your favorite beauty products?!

Happy Friday Folks!

March 20, 2012

The news all day yesterday kept telling us severe storms were coming, but it was sunny and in the 70's, so it was hard to imagine such a change.  That was until 2 a.m. this morning, when we all awoke to loud (LOUD!) thunder and bright lightening!

We're now under flash flood watches, tornado warnings, etc. Thank goodness it's all moving out of here, but for anyone in East Texas, please be careful! This horrible weather is headed your way!

On a better note, check back here in the next few days as I will be hosting a giveaway for all you Earth loving recycling people! (I'm definitely one of you & LOVE this prize!!)

Green Eggs & Ham - St. Patty's Day Style! #TXBacon

March 17, 2012

What better way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day than having a Dr. Seuss inspired green eggs & ham breakfast?! And everyone knows my favorite bacon & ham is Petit Jean Ham (which btw is also the official meat of the Dallas Cowboys)! So when I got the idea to do green eggs and ham, I thought, "How can I make something yummy that my daughter will want to eat?!" Then it hit me... A Green omelet with ham, cheese, & black olives inside! Perfection!

So Saturday morning, we went to Walmart to get all the ingredients for breakfast. Bella wanted to help me pick everything out. She's become my little chef in the kitchen lately! We went strolling through the isles looking at all the cute St. Patty's Day decorations, then to the breakfast meats area. We were able to find Petit Jean Ham easily, scooped it up along with the other goodies, then headed to check out.

Once we got home, we got to cooking! Bella helped me put the cracked eggs in a bowl & I let her drip the green dye into the bowl as well. She loved how it changed the color and kept asking if it tasted the same with a different color! I just laughed and told her it was all going to be delicious!

Once we got done cooking, it was time to try our masterpiece and it was delish!! Bella loved everything about it! We decided afterwards that this was going to be our annual breakfast every St. Patrick's Day! Here's the recipe to celebrate with your little ones:

Green Eggs & Ham Omelet:
(Makes 1 omelet each)

Ingredients:

2 Eggs
3 drops of green dye
1 slice of Petit Jean Ham
2 tbsp milk
Shredded Cheese (I use cheddar)
Sliced black olives (optional)
Any other yummy veggies you like in your omelets!

Directions:

Break 2 eggs into a bowl
Add the drops of green dye. You can add as many or as little as you want depending on how dark green you want your eggs.
 Add the milk and whisk until fully blended.
Pour into a hot pan & let cook until you start seeing bubbles form.
Add the ham & cheese and let cook until cheese melts.
Flip 1/2 the egg onto other side
Flip omelet once to cook both sides evenly
Put onto a dish & enjoy!

SXSW

March 13, 2012

Last week & this week is the annual South by Southwest (SXSW) festival here in Austin. It's a fabulous time to be an Austinite in that there are tons & tons of parties, lots of celebrities roaming around, and tons of live music everywhere you go. (Hence the Live Music Capital of the World!)

{via}
Last week was the movie & technology portion of Southby, this week is the music.  Just to name a few celebrities that are here... Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Judd Apetow, Bruce Springsteen, Matthew McConaughey, etc. etc. etc.

The only downfall?! EVERYTHING in Austin is packed! Parking sucks, restaurant waits are FOREVER long, and downtown is unbelievably crowded! Luckily it's only 2 weeks every year, and thankfully this week it's beautiful weather (sunny & highs in the mid-80's).

One year this Momma will actually have to go to SXSW! (Yep lived here 13 years now and never been! Sad & crazy huh?!)

Happy Southby Week!

Shutterfly Yearbooks

March 12, 2012

Bella starts kindergarten in the Fall, but we feel like she's been in preschool school for a while now & has made friends I hope she never forgets. One thing I think would be perfect for this year is a Shutterfly Yearbook, so she'll always have memories of preschool.

I love that I can put different pictures that I & the other parents have taken of our kids together & make a photo yearbook of their time together. This way, even though they'll all be at different elementary schools next year, they'll never forget their 1st classmates & the memories made together.

Some of the best things about Shutterfly's yearbooks are that they are easy to make, not too expensive, & are made of good quality so they will last! They can be made for one person, a classroom, or the entire school.

You can check out their new yearbooks online, facebook, twitter, & pinterest! It's definitely something I will be getting Bella for the end of this school year!
