Weekend Wrap Up

March 31, 2014

This weekend was way out of the ordinary for us. We're usually home bodies who like low key evenings & working out the next morning.
We did work out both Saturday and Sunday, but ended up going out both nights before hand. Friday night we went to the Nutty Brown Cafe and saw Randy Rogers Band play. They are seriously one of my favorite bands of all time & they were awesome in concert!
We had a great time with friends and thousands of other people!
Saturday night we went out with a group of close friends & had a blast. We had planned a cheapo, low key evening & that didn't happen AT ALL. It was a great time & so much fun!

My Favorite Flip Flops

March 28, 2014

Here's one thing everyone who knows me in "real life" knows about me...
I am insanely into flip flops!
Not the rubber, wear in the dorm room shower type, but more like ones you can wear with cute outfits and they don't look like you're slacking or giving up.
I do wear mine with pretty much everything!
Here are some of my favorites...
Aldo Matilda
These are super cute, comfy, and come in 3 colors. The best thing about them?! They're on sale for $20! Score!
These come in a ton of colors (5 to be exact) and I absolutely adore the embellishments on them. So cute, the only problem is deciding which color I like the most!
I bought these last year and wear them constantly! They go with everything and are super comfy! I adore American Eagle flip flops and end up buying a few pairs every summer!

Looking Back

March 27, 2014

If you haven't been a long time reader to this blog, you might not know that we're crazy in our casa.
Not serial killer crazy, but more like fun times always laughing crazy.
My husband has always made me laugh ever since we started dating & Bella is EXACTLY the same. She makes the craziest faces and dances her little booty off in the living room all the time.
Between her & The Hubs, there's never a dull moment.
They really do make me laugh and cheer me up whenever possible.
I'm not really a goofy type person, but I love to dance with them in the middle of the living room when a really good country song comes on.
I feel it's moments like this that make my life what it is.
I know she'll look back on those days and remember how much fun it was to grow up.
I did the same with my parents and remember how great a childhood I had growing up.
I only hope Bella has the same feelings when she's married and a momma!

Work Out Wednesday

March 26, 2014

Here's my thoughts on hitting the gym.
1) I see these people at the gym texting while they're jogging or riding a bike. I'm sorry and don't mean to be rude, but there is no time when I'm running/lifting/biking to stop, read a text, and respond. This is MY TIME. This is the time that the only thing happening on my phone is music blaring in my ears to keep me going. No texting, no talking, nothing... just me working my ass off towards my goal. 1 hour 4x a week and I love it!
2) I may look cute when I get to the gym because I come straight from work & still have my makeup on, but you better believe that I definitely leave the gym looking like complete crap! My face is red, I'm sweating like crazy, & I could care less. In fact, if I did look good when I was done working out, then I didn't work out hard enough & need to go back for more.

3) I don't pay a lot of $$ for my workout clothes. I get most of them at Target & Old Navy because all I do is work out in them. But my shoes...
My shoes are crazy expensive & I LOVE those damn things!
The Hubs & I both paid an arm & a leg for our running shoes because we know they fit us perfectly & they will last!
One day soon I'll probably give in and get a pair of Nike Dri-Fit capri pants because I heard they're amazeballs, but until then I'm happy in my cheap ass Old Navy workout gear.

4) So even if you can't afford the expensive shoes, clothes, gym membership, grab some sweats and an old t-shirt and get to running around your neighborhood. It's finally starting to warm up enough to get motivated to move!

Something New & Quite Painful

March 25, 2014

On Saturday morning I went with some friends and tried something new for me. RPM class. It's a biking class by Les Mills that's a 45 minutes class of intense bike riding.
It had me realizing a few things about myself. I'm not as in shape as I should be, but I'm getting there! And the main thing it taught me is how badly your ass can hurt for DAYS. When we got finished with the class we all were saying how badly our legs and butt were burning & I sure felt it all weekend. It's a great 45 minute class that flies by and the only advice I can give you is remember to bring a towel cause ya gonna need it!
It's now become our "group class" and there's around 5 of us that take up the whole back row every Saturday morning! It's so much fun to be able to workout with friends and have a blast while getting fit! Welcome to my Saturday mornings!

Chicken & Green Chile Casserole

March 24, 2014

It's seriously been a while since I posted a new recipe. Mainly because I usually eat grilled chicken and veggies every night and how interesting is that to post?!
Last night I decided to give in and make my family a new not too healthy casserole that was delicious! So delish in fact we're heating up the rest tonight and having it again for dinner.
I got the original recipe here & changed it up a bit. (I added chicken cause no way was The Hubs gonna go for a vegetarian dinner!)
Chicken & Green Chile Casserole
2 - 7 oz. cans of whole green chiles
1 lb. Chicken breast
8 oz. bag  Monterrey Jack Cheese
8 oz. bag Cheddar Cheese
2 Eggs
1 - 5 oz. can Evaporated Milk
1 cup Flour
1/2 Cup Milk
8 oz can tomato sauce
1) Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spray 9x13 baking pan.
2) Slice 1 can of chiles and place in an even layer on bottom of baking pan.
3) Sprinkle with 1/2 of the monterrey jack and cheddar cheese on top of the chiles.
4) In a separate bowl, mix together both milks, eggs, flour, cooked chicken, & the rest of the sliced chiles from 2nd can.
5) Pour over the chile/cheese in the next layer.

6) Pour a little cheese over the top and put in the oven for 25 minutes.
7) Remove from oven & pour tomato sauce on top and add the rest of both cheeses.
8) Cook for another 15 minutes.
Hope you love this recipe as much as we did!
It was definitely delicious!

Friday Faves - Jorts

March 21, 2014

I love me a good pair of cut off jean shorts, but if I even try to make my own from old jeans they end up uneven & usually in the trash can by the time I'm done.
Last summer you saw the cute accents put on jorts (lace, fringe, etc.) & I'm hoping that's still around this year too! I love those cute lace jean shorts. So precious with a t-shirt and flip flops!
Here's my favorite jean shorts for sale right now!
AE Boyfriend Shorts
I love these because A) they're not so short that 1/2 my ass is hanging out & B) they have just a little tearing to make them interesting. Plus they're boyfriend fit so they won't be super tight around my thighs!
These are so cute! I love the dark color they come in & are cut off's but not overly. These will definitely be bought soon!
These are freakin adorable! I love the lace edging and they're super affordable!!

March 20, 2014

Life has been pretty damn good lately.
Our favorite thing after we read a few books is to get my camera phone out and be silly! I have tons of pics like this of us!
Between getting to spend quality time with my sweet girl to getting to the gym 4-5 times a week, my life is pretty nice right now.

This is what I look like after a 2.5 mile run! Eek!!
The Hubs and I get to have date nights once a month or so & we cherish them completely.
Even if it's ordering pizza and watching a movie on Netflix, it's our time & it's meaningful.
So here's to welcoming Spring with open arms!
Hello Sunshine!!

Work Out Wednesday

March 19, 2014

Last week I caught the flu. I was layed up on the couch Wednesday evening until Sautrday morning and didn't even think about running. My friends were out running and The Hubs went to the gym while I laid around sulking.
This week I am making up for it and running or working out every day. But during the sick week, I started feeling bad about myself. Mad cause I couldn't run. Fat again even though I couldn't hold food down. (TMI, sorry!) But I kept reminding myself that I am working towards a goal and taking it day by day.
I love the above saying. I LOVE that we as women can lift each other up and support each other in this whole process. I think it's good to have friends who are in the same mentality of working out as you are. Keeps me going knowing that I'm not in this alone.
So, even though I feel depressed sometimes or in a rut I just go for a run.
It helps every time.

Figuring it Out

March 18, 2014

There's one thing I am starting to learn the more and more I run.
Running never gets easier.
How's that for a confidence booster?!
Let me tell you how I am finding this out.
I have a close friend who lives a few houses down from me and is an avid runner. After our runs we'll text and tell each other how the run went, etc.
I pretty much always complain.
My shins hurt, it was too hot out, etc. I tell her things and she agrees with me that she has the same problems. The difference is that she runs 5-6 miles every.single.day! She's been running like that for well over a year and still has the same problems as I had.
She started out just like me running a mile or two every few days and now she hits well over 60 miles every month!
So for her to tell me that she still has the same problems that I'm having now scares the crap out of me. This is never going to get easier?! Then what's the point??
Here's what I've learned. It never gets easier, YOU GET BETTER.
You build up your runs and run farther, burn more calories, sweat more, & are not as sore as you used to be. You learn how to push yourself more and are proud of yourself when you're done.
Keep this in mind next time you go for a run and feel like dying afterwards.
You will get better.

March 14, 2014

I have a confession to make.
I have asthma.
I've had it since I was in middle school and it's not going anywhere.
Every single day before I run or work out, I take my inhalers.
Do they help? Yes definitely.
Do they cut out the asthma completely when working out? Nope.
So why am I confessing this?
Because I want you to know that working out and running isn't that easy for me.
Like you I dread my runs.
I hate thinking about 1/2 way through my run I'm gonna start feeling like I'm drowning & have to stop for a sec to catch my breath.
I hate knowing that if it weren't for my damn asthma, I might be able to train for a 1/2 marathon like The Hubs did.
I hate thinking that God forbid I get on the treadmill at the gym and bust out with an asthma attack infront of tons of strangers.
What keeps me going?
Knowing that I'm helping myself loose weight, become healthy, and feel better overall inside and out.
Thinking that in high school I was a gymnast and had asthma and was fine, so a little run/weights isn't going to kill me. (Hopefully! Just kidding it won't!)
I might not be at my goal weight, I might not be at my goal running level/distance, but little by little, day by day, I'm getting there.
So can you...

Work Out Wednesday

March 12, 2014

So I found this girl on facebook and then started following her on youtube. Her Youtube name is Dance Fitness with Jessica.  Her workouts are one song each so you can do as many as you want & don't feel obligated to do a full 30 minute workout if you're in a rush. She's awesome and her workouts actually work and are fun!
(I was going to post one of her video's here but she's got the embed disabled! Sorry!)
So I found this little diddy on Pinterest & it's so true!
If you just put on your workout clothes, shoes, pull your hair back, etc. it'll help you feel much more in tuned to get your ass up working out. I always think do I really want to change & workout?! But right after my workout gear is on, I'm ready to go without a second thought.

I love this quote for the mere fact that even if you workout for 1/2 the time you usually do, or only put in a mile during your run, it's still SOMETHING. You're still doing more than you would do sitting on the couch. And if you fall down, then you get right back up and tell that story of how you overcame your obstacles!

How I Keep Track

March 11, 2014

Every time I go for a run whether it's a mile or 3 miles, I log onto my Nike Run App to log my run. It tells me how far I went, how long I ran, my average mile pace, and it also alerts me during my runs every 1/2 mile I've gone.
But what I love the most about it is you can find your facebook friends and it actually makes it a competition against them! It tracks all of your miles and resets at the 1st of every month. I loved it up until I made 15 friends and have ended up so far in 6th place! (A few of my friends on here ran a 1/2 marathon on March 2nd, so yeah they're gonna kick my ever loving ass this month!)
I love that I'm beating The Hubs as of now! Woo-Hoo!
It also has levels to reach and will change the background color of your app when you hit them. I just hit orange last week & have a long way to go until green, but it makes me feel like I've reached a goal and that I'm being productive during my runs!

This was last week when I hit the orange level!
I'm a huge music person when I run because it helps me keep pace more. So I make sure and put my music loud enough to hear but not too loud so I miss cars honking at me to get the hell out of the way!
What's your favorite running app?

Post Work Out Ideas

March 10, 2014

I'm not a doctor and have no medical experience but these are some of the things I do after working out to help me recover quickly.

1) EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control Shake - We get these at our local HEB and they really don't taste too bad, especially when you get it right from your fridge after a run in the sun & heat. They're only 100 calories per drink and have 17 grams of protein to help your muscles recover. I think we pay maybe $4.00 per 4 pack so they're pretty inexpensive as well.
2) Hard Boiled Eggs - The Hubs usually comes home after we run together and boils us 2 hard boiled eggs each. They are an excellent source of protein and I love them with salt & pepper.
(Just as a note, we do either one above but not together! That's a little too much for me!)
3) Stretching - I feel like this is kinda a duh statement, but there are some times after I run that I get home and just want to plop myself down and drink a gallon of water, which I've done a few times before and paid for it the next day. You really need to stretch those achy muscles to keep them from tightening up and getting sore.
4) Ice Cold Shower - This one gets me every time. I like my steaming hot showers especially after running, but cold water helps your muscles heal quicker. So usually I just shoot super ice cold water on my legs before getting into the shower.
5) Corganics Relief Cream - If all else fails and you're still in pain, this stuff is my favorite. My Dad actually gave me a bottle of it when I was having my shin problems & it's a miracle! It's like it freezes your muscles and takes the pain virtually away. I can't say enough about how amazing this cream is!
What are your go to post work out ideas?

March 7, 2014

I am noticing that this lil blog 'o mine is changing. I'm not posting constantly about hair and makeup products because quite honestly I don't change my makeup products that often and have been sticking to the same hair products I already posted about.
See this is my blog, this is a place where I can get my thoughts and feelings on paper. I can cuss if I want (because trust me I do in real life), and I can blog about whatever my little heart desires. Which right now and hopefully for a long time to come is working out, loosing weight, & getting fit.
I don't plan on posting about running every.single.day, but a few times a week more than likely. I love my Work Out Wednesday posts because they actually help people to get up and work out, including myself.
I love posting about new workout gear I've found and love & I like posting about how far I've come in the last few months. It makes me proud that I can do what I set my mind to & I hope it offers a little insight and maybe a ray of hope to someone who is where I was a few months ago. Sitting on the couch with little to no energy, but wishing she were smaller/thinner/healthier. I cried for months over how I looked and finally decided enough is enough.
After a 2 mile run yesterday. Don't let the pic fool you, I had rested for a good 20 minutes between finishing my run & taking this picture. Disregard the unmade bed in the background, cause sometimes, that's how I roll...
So if you are noticing changes to my blog, please know this is where this blog is starting to go. Yes I'll still post about The Hubs and Bella Belle! They are my priority & my heart.

Spring Tops on the Cheap

March 6, 2014

I always love finding cute shirts or tops on the cheap especially in the Spring and Summer times. I feel like summery clothes should be easy and not hurt your wallet. Here's my top tops for Spring! (All at Forever 21 too, because lately, they've been hitting it out of the ballpark!)

I'm not sure if this top would make me look almost pregnant since it's so flowy, but it's so cute and easy.

This one is a must have for me. Love the beading on it! Also, it comes in all white which is probably what I'd choose over yellow.
This one comes in 3 colors, but the bright beautiful color seems most appropriate for Spring time.
What are your favorite tops for Spring?
