Workout Wednesday

April 30, 2014

Confession... I HATED running. I mean I would tell people "I am SO NOT a runner!"
I never understood the greatness of running. You never see runners smiling as they run, you wonder why the hell anyone would want to try 26.2 miles on foot. You laugh when people say it's only 3.12 miles! I didn't get it.
Until I started actually running.
Then I realized the greatness of running.
I realized that working my way up to a 5k, 10k, etc is amazing.
That even though I really don't want to run, once I'm done I'm so happy I got through it.
I realized that I AM A RUNNER.
And being a runner is absolutely amazing.

Some People Don't Get It

April 28, 2014

I'm pretty damn lucky because everyone close to me understands that I'm on this journey to get healthy, fit, & look better. Most all of my friends/neighbors are all runners and we go running together a lot. It makes it so much easier and helps me stay on track.
Not everyone is so lucky. A lot of friends and family won't understand what journey you're on. They don't get why you feel the need to work out and run every single day. They might think you're a bad mom for doing something without your kids and "getting away" for an hour a day.
Here's the thing, they're not on this journey... YOU ARE.
You're the one who gets up every single day to look in the mirror and see yourself naked, picking out those things you hate about your body. They're not with you when you hit the wall during your run yet keep pushing yourself further. And they're definitely not there when you step on the scale and notice you've lost a few pounds or are able to fit into your skinny jeans again!
So anytime anyone questions this journey you're on, just remember, you're not doing this for them, you're doing it for yourself. They might not get it, but they don't need to, only you do.

A Little End of the Week Motivation

April 25, 2014

Motivational sayings are some of my favorite things on Pinterest. (You know along with swimsuits I adore, places I want to travel to, and anything Texas) But this one I saw a few days ago & it hit me over the head how true it is.
I've tried this whole working out/dieting thing many MANY times and always made an excuse for not going to the gym today or for having pizza & breadsticks every single week. It wasn't that I didn't want to get healthy & look better, but the desire to get there just wasn't there for me.
This past January Bella had her 7th birthday party and we took a crap ton of pics for it.
This isn't the worst one of me that day, but I deleted the rest...
I looked at myself and realized I looked like shit. My ass was humongous as well as my thighs & I couldn't stand it anymore. My desire to change finally kicked in & I started running. Yeah I could barely make it a mile when I 1st started & felt like dying every time I finished, but I kept at it.
I'm now running around 3 to 3.5 miles 5x a week. I'm not at my goal weight yet, but the changes are there and visible and that makes it all worth it. I hope to NEVER get that big again, so I eat much healthier, cut back on alcohol, and work out.
For me it hit me in the head that I have to change my ways if I want to see my baby girl grow up, graduate, get married, etc. I want her to see how hard I'm trying and learn to know what healthy is, so she NEVER feels the way I felt looking at this picture.

Fitness Blog Awesomeness

April 24, 2014

Okay so the title isn't the best, but I am realizing I'm starting to suck at blog post titles. My brain isn't working as well as normal & I blame it on lack of sleep. (Or stress, or going 100 miles a minute, etc.)
Anyway, there is this fitness blog I read daily. It's amazeballs because it gives you step by step instructions, posts about fitness gear, etc. I 1st found Fitness Skinny Mom on pinterest about a year or so ago and thought, "Eh, I could do that at home workout" Yeah I didn't, but now on my days I don't run, I'll get on and find a workout that works for me. Especially the ones on leg exercises! Woo they can kill you if you do exactly as described!
I think the thing I love about this blog is they give step by step instructions on each thing but it also shows you pictures on what to do. It takes the guess work out of wondering if you're doing the moves correctly or not. I hate being in the middle of my workout, then having to stop and look on YouTube to see how to actually do the next move. This cuts all that out.
If you're wanting a good workout at home, I definitely would check this blog out!

Work Out Wednesday

April 23, 2014

Damn those 24 hours we get. 8 or so of them are spent sleeping, 10 more of those for working, plus driving, showering, cooking, eating, etc. Our hours everyday are precious & we should spend them wisely.
If we can give just 1 hour a day to ourselves and get to the gym or get a run in then imagine how much better we'll feel in a year.
Since Feb 1st I've lost 17 lbs & I'm so excited to see a change in myself. I've given up a lot of my favorites (mainly wine & fast food) to get here and I still have a ways to go, but people are starting to notice I've lost weight and that makes it all worth it for me!
Yeah we're all jam packed daily with our to-do's, but getting in a workout and having "me time" is a must for me. I love my life, my daughter, The Hubs, but I also love throwing on my headphones & running a few miles.
It's my Me Time and honestly it keeps me sane and happy.
So yeah maybe it's only an hour a day that we have, but let's make that hour count!

Easter 2014

April 21, 2014

This weekend was so much fun. I got to go to Dallas and celebrate both my sister & sister-in-law's birthdays plus Bella got to celebrate Easter with her cousins! She was in Heaven playing football with The Hubs & Austyn. Great time overall. (I totally didn't take one picture the whole time I was there because I got to sit back and just enjoy our time together.)
Sunday the Easter Bunny made his debut at Papa's house, so when Bella woke up she got to Easter Egg hunt all over his house and backyard. After breakfast we headed back to Austin, then went to his parents' house to celebrate with them. Overall a wonderful family weekend & a great Easter.
Smashing Cascarones on each other. Family tradition that Bella loves!

Workout Wednesday

April 16, 2014

This week's Workout Wednesday is mainly just for me.
(Although if it speaks to you, then yay!)
Here's my biggest problem when I run is I hit a wall around 2 or 2.5 miles.
I feel like my lungs want to burst and that my legs are lead.
Sometimes I give in and stop but most time I think let me just try another quarter mile.
Let me just push myself a little more. It might kill me right now, but it's worth it in the end!
Same thing when I hit the weights. Squats, push ups, crunches, I always push myself to just do 10 more. We can all do 10 more right?!
Gosh I hope so! Ha!

Best Drugstore Bronzers

April 15, 2014

To say I'm obsessed with bronzer is an understatement. I wear it even on days I don't feel like wearing makeup. It just makes me look awake and tan, not unhealthy and pale that my face normally is! Plus I love contouring and make sure I do whenever I put makeup on.

Here's the thing, I only use one brand for my bronzers... Physicians Formula. I have tried many MANY bronzers from cheap as crap to high end, and I always end up back with them. They have amazing color, never orangy or dirty looking, & so many options to choose from.

This weekend I bought the BB Bronze Booster in Medium/Dark (it's not dark at all thank goodness!) and I friggin love it. It's got a hint of shimmer but doesn't show up on your skin at all. They cost a few bucks more than other drugstore bronzers, but for me they are totally worth it! I can't wait to try them all!
Also, make sure and check out my favorite drugstore blushes! Just in time for Spring!

Weekend Wrap Up

April 14, 2014

This weekend was jam packed and a great weekend overall.
Friday night Bella had her Bobcat Bash at school. They got to play games, go in bouncy houses, meet firemen & go in their fire truck. She was in Heaven!
She loved it so much that after dinner, she talked Daddy into taking her back for a 2nd time!
Saturday morning I hit the gym and put in a 3.5 mile run while The Hubs was at work, then we ran some errands. Bella had a kid's night out at the YMCA, so we met up with some friends at Iguana Grill & this was our view for dinner...

Amazing right?! The only downfall is how low the lake is right now. But man I love Austin & the amazing places it has in it!
Sunday we took it easy for most of the day, then hit the gym Sunday night to do upper body weights. We also got in a competition with our close friends and now have to run 25 miles in 13 days... I have no clue what I was thinking signing up for this but it starts today & I will be in that damn gym every afternoon hoping to win!
Happy Monday!

April 11, 2014

On Monday my friends and I registered for the Blacklight Run.
If you haven't heard of it before, it's a crazy 5K that you run at night. They throw these neon colors all over you while running and the blacklight picks it all up. Afterwards there's so kind of after party you can attend where they give you a bag of this colored dust to throw around.
Now I'm not sure if we're going to make the after party mainly because it'll be somewhat late & we'll be extremely dirty, but I can't wait for the run! It'll be me & 4 friends having a different kind of girls night out! We're all into running so it'll make for an awesome night!
What's your favorite race?
(Oh also The Hubs signed up for Spartan Race last night as well... no turning back now!)

Wish List

April 10, 2014

I always have a wish list for something.
And today's it's workout gear.
I've stated before on here that I don't tend to spend a lot on my workout clothes, mainly because I wasn't that into working out last year & also because you sweat like crazy in them, so why pay a ton of moula on it?!
But I'm here to say my mind's starting to change.
Recently I've been seriously lusting over these babies...
Nike Compression Capris
These shorts right here...
Nike Pro Core II Compression Shorts
And this adorable workout tank...
Forever 21 Workout Tank
(Okay so not everything is expensive & I have an addiction to Nike workout gear!)
I think since I've started really getting into running and working out my views on workout clothes have drastically changed. And that's okay because little by little I'll let myself indulge in the good stuff.

Work Out Wednesday

April 9, 2014

I'm gonna be real honest with you here... last week was a bitch & I completely blew off the eating healthy/no alcohol kick I've been on.
I had really bad days last week, forgot my inhalers for the gym, but still ran none the less. Thank goodness I did because I seriously ate like crap all weekend. And was exhausted almost daily on top of it... mainly due to the terrible food I was feeding myself.
We all have those weeks/days/years that kick us when we're down, but don't let it get to you. Get back up, dust yourself off, and get back to the gym. Get back on the clean eating & no alcohol (or whatever you're doing to get healthier)
I'm not doing this to become skinny, because skinny isn't beautiful to me.
What's beautiful is tone & some muscle definition.
What's beautiful is a Mom who pushes herself to work her ass off and is an image for her children of what healthy is.

I absolutely love this saying. I think every girl should think of herself the same way. We are all fierce & amazing people who can do anything we set our minds to.
Always remember that.

Did You Know?

April 8, 2014

Maybe I'm late in knowing this but my favorite deep conditioner now has options!
I've always been in love with Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle & use it every time I wash my hair, but when I went to Target I saw this...
Aussie now has options! I bought the one for colored hair & it works amazing!! My hair is so soft & still smells amazing! They also have Moist, Strong, Shine, & Smooth versions. I was beyond thrilled to see they made new versions & can't wait to try them all.

Ground Turkey Tostadas

April 7, 2014

This is by far the easiest recipe ever. It's somewhat healthy minus the cheese and tostadas & you can add anything you want to make it your own! My daughter even ate her whole tostada which NEVER happens. Here's the recipe:

Ground Turkey Tostadas

1 lb. ground turkey
Tomatoes (cubed)
Tostada tortillas
Shredded Cheese (we got the Mexican Blend)
1) Cook the ground turkey until fully cooked
2) Cut the tomatoes into cubes
3) Layer..
Start with a tostada
Add shredded cheese, melt for 20 seconds in the microwave
Add turkey
Add lettuce & tomatoes over
Finish with shredded cheese

April 4, 2014

I realized yesterday that sometimes all you need is a break.
I have this habit of running myself ragged especially when it comes to working out.
Lately I've been trying to get a run in daily after work, and it was going well until my body started yelling at me to take a break.
I tried not to listen and to push through it but that went downhill quickly.
Wednesday night I was dead asleep by 7:45 p.m. No joke.
I was asleep before my daughter which is no bueno on my part.
So yesterday I took a much needed day off.
I got off work, got Bella Belle, & went home.
We spent quality time together, she got to play with her friends, etc.
It was amazing!
Sometimes that's all you need is a break...
Happy Friday!

Work Out Wednesday

April 2, 2014

Here's the thing, I am 32 years old, mom, wife, and not a little skinny awesome 20-yr old anymore. Which means everything is harder. Loosing weight after 30 is insanely tough.
But the thing that kills me the most...
Is when I get on a treadmill & there's a ton of them open, yet a cute little 21 yr old girl decides to pick the treadmill right next to mine to run on.
For the love of God pick a different treadmill girl!!
Now I'm feeling like I have to run harder, further, faster.
Which is good and bad... I work out harder but I also feel pissed that I need to do this because of some girl next to me.
Anyone else feel that way?

We have 3 vacays coming up this year and all 3 need swimsuits!
I keep reminding myself of this when I don't feel like getting up to work out...
I want to look smoking hot for all 3 of those vacations & am working hard to get there!

How Long to Workout

April 1, 2014

I used to think a 20 minute workout was all I needed. And granted it's better than not working out at all. There's been plenty of times that all I have is 20 minutes and I use them wisely, but overall and normally I work out 45 minutes - hour 5 days a week.
I usually get to the gym by 4:30 p.m. and go straight to the treadmill. I run at least 30 minutes and get around 3 miles in, (sometimes a little more), then hit the weights for another 15 - 30 minutes depending on time.
I have this schedule set so I can get Bella from school before, let her play with her friends at the gym while I work out, then get us home, bathed, & dinner on the table by the time The Hubs gets home from work. (Trust me there's many times dinner's not ready when he gets home or I call him and tell him I'm exhausted and he picks something up for us on his way home!)
Obvi, the more time you use to work out the more of a workout you get, but at least try 30 minutes a day. I saw this on Pinterest today & although I'm not sure if it's completely true, it's definitely something to think about when working out...
Keep pushing yourself, you'll be happy you did!
